Brendoncare Clubs volunteer wins New Milton Citizen of the Year award

Bernie Day, who leads a team of eight volunteers at New Milton's Get Together Club, recently received the New Milton "Citizen of the Year" award, in recognition of her volunteering work in the town. Town Mayor, Councillor David Hawkins, presented Bernie with the award at the Town Council's recent annual meeting, and praised her dedication to the club: "She always goes that extra mile, and will take on extra-curricular activities if she thinks they are beneficial to club members", he said. Accepting the honour, Bernie stressed that the Get Together Club's success was very much a team effort, and praised the other volunteers. She also thanked the Gore Grange Care Home for lending the group their minibus for outings. "I only do bits and bobs," she said modestly. "We all work as a team in New Milton. I think New Milton is a brilliant place to be. There's so much going on, and so much to do." The Get Together Club meets at St. Mary Magdalene Church Hall in Church Lane, New Milton, from 2pm to 4pm on the first and third Wednesday of the month.
