Brendoncare Raises Over £32,000 in 30th Anniversary Year

Brendoncare’s “Let’s Do 30!” fundraising campaign came to a close today, and a year of fundraising by staff, volunteers and other supporters has resulted in over £32,000 being raised for the charity.

On 14th February 2014, we celebrated 30 years as a registered charity, supporting older people in care homes and clubs across the South of England. The “Let’s Do 30!” campaign was launched to mark the occasion, inviting supporters to do “30 somethings” to raise money, either to improve the range of activities in clubs, or towards the cost of installing Wi-Fi in each of our ten care homes.

In the care homes, the focus has been on ensuring our residents can stay connected with friends and families, by making the most of modern technology. Wi-Fi installation, along with new IT equipment and training, has already allowed residents to take part in family gatherings via Skype, and establish contact with family members overseas.

Brendoncare clubs, which operate across Hampshire and Dorset, offer a range of activities for older people. However, club members are continually looking for more variety and different activities. Clubs provide people with the opportunity for new friendship, and a means of staying active in later life; the money raised through “Let’s Do 30!” will help us to offer more choice and variety in the clubs.

A wide range of fundraising activities and events have taken place throughout the year, including cake sales, sponsored walks and cycle rides, baths of baked beans, sponsored slims, handmade jewellery and cards, raffles and table top sales. Participants raised money in many different ways, and their originality and enthusiasm have been key to the campaign’s success, making Brendoncare’s 30th anniversary year truly memorable.
