Chandlers Ford care home helps tackle food waste

Brendoncare Knightwood is helping to cut food waste through participation in the FareShare FoodCloud. This scheme provides local charities and community groups with access to good quality surplus food from their local Tesco store. Food which is nearing its sell-by date, but is perfectly useable, is made available and Brendoncare Knightwood is delighted to be trialling the scheme within the care home.

The food donated under the FareShare programme includes items such as bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, tinned food and cereals.

Brendoncare Knightwood’s General Manager, Carol Mayers, commented “Food is very important within the home with our chef focused on producing delicious, healthy meals for residents and guests. We are proud to hold a 5* rating from the Food Standards Agency. The FareShare programme offers us complimentary food products which are staple items in our kitchen. We are delighted to be part of the scheme, which will enable us to help keep our costs down while not compromising the quality of our meals.”

Brendoncare Knightwood is part of The Brendoncare Foundation, a registered charity which has been supporting older people across the south of England for over thirty years.
