Daring fundraisers to abseil down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower

This weekend, more than 30 daring fundraisers will be abseiling down one of Portsmouth’s most iconic structures, the Spinnaker Tower, raising money for three local charities.

The three charities, Age Concern Hampshire, Brendoncare and Carers Together, all provide services for older people, ranging from information and advice, to care homes, clubs and activities, as well as direct support for carers. The joint event, taking place on Saturday 27th June, will see participants abseiling around 100 metres, one by one throughout the day.

Brendoncare supporter Katy McNally told us why she decided to take part: “On the whole I feel this country has a poor record for caring for older people. However, I was so impressed to hear all that Brendoncare do for the older generation, in caring for them with compassion and dignity. I’m definitely nervous, and I do have more of a fear of heights than when I was younger, but knowing I’m doing it for Brendoncare means that no matter what, I will get down that b***dy tower!”

The first brave abseiler begins their descent at 8.30am, and the three charities and their fundraisers would welcome supporters on the day.
