Tackling loneliness amongst older people at weekends

Hampshire-based charity Brendoncare is opening a new friendship and wellbeing club in Fareham on Saturdays.

Brendoncare supports older people through its clubs. The charity’s latest focus is around helping older people at weekends. Many community services run from Monday to Friday only, leaving some people alone and socially isolated during Saturday and Sunday. Brendoncare is launching a number of weekend clubs across Hampshire and Dorset in the coming months. One of the first to launch is their new Saturday club in Fareham on 28 February.

The new club will run every Saturday between 2pm and 4pm at Fareham Library, Osborn Road, Fareham, PO16 7EN. The club is open to both men and women and members will be able to enjoy a range of activities, such as games, quizzes, kurling and much more. They will also have the chance to meet new friends over tea and biscuits.

The charity is also looking for volunteers to help run the club. There are a number of opportunities available, from making the tea to organising activities.
