Nursing Home
The nursing home, Brendoncare Alton, is divided into self-contained wings to give the home-like atmosphere of small family units. Each consists of 15 bedrooms, a spacious and welcoming sitting and dining room and a small kitchen. All the bedrooms have en-suite facilities, a TV point, private telephone line and a nurse-call system.
Meals are provided from a central, well-equipped kitchen under the direction of the Head Chef. There is also a restaurant with a licensed bar where residents can entertain their family and friends. Residents are encouraged to be as active as they wish and facilities include a hairdressing salon, a shop and a library which is well stocked with large print books and tapes. There are two lifts.
The home enjoys close links with the local community of Alton and there is an enthusiastic friends group. An Activities Co-ordinator helps residents revisit old hobbies or take up new interests, and volunteers visit regularly and help organise activities and social gatherings. Frequent outings are arranged using the home's own minibus.
Led by a highly qualified Home Manager with a commercial background, who is supported by a Head of Care with considerable nursing experience, the staff at Alton work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident's needs and preferences. Registered Nurses are always on duty supported by trained Care Assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development.
