Brendoncare Knightwood is an example of integration between Brendoncare and health and social care service providers. There are three key essential elements which make up the Brendoncare Total Care Living concept:
- Independently-owned high quality accommodation
- Themed services which add to residents' quality of life such as restaurant, hairdressing salon, shop and fitness centre
- Nursing and care facilities, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
In terms of innovation, this development has several noteworthy features:
Individuals living in the apartments and bungalows will have all the care they need delivered to them in their own home. From practical support through to nursing home levels of care, they should not have to move to receive any care they may need.
The cost of care should be within the grant levels paid by Hampshire Social Services for nursing home fee rates.
This model has the advantage of ring fencing the capital value of the property as we believe this would be excluded when calculating the individual's entitlement (means test) to a Social Service care grant.
The episodic care centre is not a permanent home. Rather it provides episodes of care, rehabilitation for early discharge from hospital (Step down Care) and is an alternative to admission to a hospital bed (Step up Care).
