Club Bournemouth and Poole
Brendoncare is delighted to be working on a well-being initiative for older people in association with the Borough of Poole and the Bournemouth and Poole Teaching Primary Care Trust.
Friendship Clubs
We run nine weekly friendship clubs, staffed by a team of volunteers. Anyone interested in coming along as a member or volunteer is most welcome.
- Halfway Monday Club meets on Mondays from 2pm until 4pm at The Grasshopper, 141 Bournemouth Road, Parkstone BH14 9HT
- Harbourside Club meets on Thursdays from 2pm until 4pm at The Salvation Army Centre, 2 New Orchard, Poole BH15 1LY (access via Hill Street)
- Brownsea Club meets on Wednesdays from 2pm until 4pm at St James' Church Hall, Church Street, Poole BH15 1LP
- Sunrise Club meets on Tuesdays from 2pm until 4pm at Sunnyhill Community Church, Sunnyhill Road, Upper Parkstone BH12 2DH (off Layton Road)
- Waterloo Sunshine Club meets on Thursdays from 2pm until 4pm at Waterloo Christian Centre, 13 Milne Road, Poole BH17 7NE
- Evergreen Club meets on Wednesdays from 2pm until 4pm at Broadstone War Memorial Hall, 7 Tudor, Broadstone, Poole BH18 8AX
- Curzon Springers Club meets on Mondays from 2pm until 4pm at The Springbourne Christian Centre Community Hall, 55-57 Curzon Road, Springbourne, Bournemouth BH1 4PP
- Haviland Club meets on Thursdays from 2pm until 4pm at St George's Wellspring Centre, 118 Haviland Road, Boscombe BH7 6HW
- Winton Friendship Club meets on Tuesdays from 2pm until 4pm at Winton YMCA, 1-7 Jameson Road, Winton BH9 2QD
New Brendoncare Active Classes
Brendoncare and the Littledown Centre have come together to improve the health and wellbeing of local people by offering Bournemouth's older residents, especially those over 70, weekly exercise classes with free transport if needed for only £3 starting from January 22nd 2010. The exercise sessions on offer are:
Mobilise class - Fridays - 1.30pm to 2.30pm
A gentle chair based class which allows you to work at very low levels to safely improve your all-round strength, mobility and balance.
Aqua Active - Fridays - 11.45am to 12.25pm
A gentle aqua class that places special emphasis on safely improving all-round mobility for those needing to start at a lower level. This is undertaken in 1.3metre depth pool. (Due to the course running into the Easter holidays the last 2 classes will be studio based sessions)
The classes will be run as 12 week courses with the next course running from 22nd January 2010 to 9th April 2010. Places are limited to 18 participant per course. To qualify, you must live in Bournemouth, be aged 50 or over (especially those over the age of 70), be able to attend at least 10 out of 12 sessions and would benefit from becoming active.

Well-being Information Centre
Brendoncare runs a one-stop information centre providing signposting for well-being services. It is located at 275 Ashley Road, Parkstone, and is open from 10am until 3pm five days a week.
Branch Manager of Brendoncare Club Bournemouth and Poole, Tony Hanson, said: "Our clubs in Poole and Bournemouth are proving to be very popular. They are devoted to giving older people the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy a variety of activities including speakers, entertainers, quizzes and club outings. Our aim is to help older people maintain their independence, feel more fulfilled, improve their quality of life and have fun! We are constantly looking to add new clubs throughout the county and to maintain and support the activities and interests of the individuals within the existing clubs."
