Intermediate Care Services
The Dame Sheila Quinn Unit at Brendoncare Knightwood is a dedicated Intermediate Care Unit offering short-stay rehabilitation and convalescence services to older people. The service is highly flexible and can be tailored to suit a diverse range of care needs.
Post-operative convalescence: for people recovering from surgery who need care, rehabilitation, reassurance and confidence before returning home
Medical convalescence: for people recovering from a fall, perhaps, or a stroke
Support for couples: if one partner's care needs have increased, the second may temporarily need some extra help and support. We have double suites available
Families in Crisis: we can provide valuable 'breathing time' while families recover from a setback or need time to look into long-term nursing or residential care options. Helping to avoid rushed decisions and costly, disruptive mistakes
Respite: people who are caring for an elderly relative or friend can call on us to provide a respite service, on a regular, occasional or one-off basis. Respite care gives support to families and allows carers to take a valuable break or holiday.
Our services can be commissioned directly by private individuals and families. We are also delighted to work with fellow health professionals perhaps caring for people in private hospitals, care or nursing homes. We also work with GPs, Social Workers and District Nurses who have patients living in the community who need a short stay or expert care, perhaps after an operation or a fall.
With a dedicated team of staff, we have considerable expertise at delivering rehabilitation and convalescent care to older people, with an emphasis on well-being and independence, striving always for a return to 'normal life' as soon as possible. The Dame Sheila Quinn unit provides short stay care, from as little as a few days, up to six weeks.

Episodic care centre
17 beds have been commissioned by Hampshire Primary Care Trust to provide care for members of the local community. This service helps prevent older people from being admitted into hospital and enables others to be discharged from hospital earlier than would normally be possible. In other words, Brendoncare Knightwood's on-site nursing centre releases hospital beds for the benefit of the whole community.
Brendoncare has worked closely with the PCT to put together this deal which provides local older people with a very special service. We are very pleased for the opportunity of working with our NHS colleagues and are delighted to be able to help provide a totally integrated rehabilitation service which fits well with Brendoncare's vision of delivering quality care to older people.
