Brendoncare recognises enormous commitment

of Knightwood volunteers

Brendoncare has paid tribute to its team of stalwart volunteers who make an enormous commitment to the charity's work caring for older people.

The Deputy Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Brian Page, and Mayoress Mrs Dorothy Page, attended a presentation evening at Brendoncare Knightwood to thank many of the team of volunteers. Cllr Page and Brendoncare's Chief Executive, Ron Staker, presented badges and certificates in recognition of their service and commitment to Brendoncare.

Sixteen awards were presented, the most notable to Jo Barton and Chris Robinson who have each accumulated over 250 hours of volunteering in just one year. They received gold awards and a Volunteer's V-shaped badge. 14 other volunteers received silver and bronze awards.

Jane Bell, Centre Manager, said: "At Knightwood a number of our services are reliant on volunteers. They run our shop and the coffee shop, chat with and support our residents, and help enrich the lives of those in the rehabilitation centre. Volunteers play a significant part in our ability to deliver really high standards of care, and we are so grateful to them all. This evening celebration enabled us to express our gratitude for all that they do."

The Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Brian Page, added: "Volunteers do a magnificent job and it's really important for organisations to take the time to say 'thank you'. My wife and I were delighted to be invited to Brendoncare Knightwood to present these awards and to see first-hand the wonderful facilities on offer here for older people."

Julie Lamont, Brendoncare's Volunteering Manager, added: "These awards acknowledge people's commitment of time and the wide range of interests and skills they bring to the benefit of residents and staff. We are always on the look-out for more volunteers and can offer fun, friendship, training and support."

Enormous commitment of volunteers recognised with inaugural awards presentation

Brendoncare Woodhayes in Exeter has paid tribute to its team of stalwart volunteers who make an enormous commitment to the charity's work caring for older people.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Norman Shiel, attended a volunteers tea party at Woodhayes to thank the current volunteers and hopefully encourage others to help out in the future. Cllr Shiel and Brendoncare's Chief Executive, Ron Staker, presented badges and certificates in recognition of the volunteers' service and commitment to Woodhayes. These were the first awards to be presented by Brendoncare since the launch of its volunteering programme last year.

Ten awards were presented, the most notable to John Parker and Tony Endacott. In the last year John has accumulated over 1,200 hours of volunteering by running errands for residents and staff, and chatting with residents. Tony has accrued 300 hours of volunteering time helping out as a kitchen porter.

Other volunteers receiving gold awards and a Volunteer's V-shaped badge were Becky Pounsberry, Diana Stoneman, Audrey Smart (a resident who doubles up as the raffle ticket seller), stalwarts Jean and Eric Webster, and Rosemary Sammons who supports the Rev David Harris at the communion service and chats with residents. Terry Osborne received a silver award and Esmee Yerlett got a bronze award for their invaluable support helping with activities, outings and social events.

Wendy Rendal-Jones, Home Manager, said: "Our volunteers play a significant part in our ability to deliver really high standards of care, and we are so grateful to them all. This tea party and these awards enabled us to express our gratitude for all that they do, giving their time and sharing their skills with residents."

Julie Lamont, Brendoncare's Volunteering Manager, added: "These were the first 'length of service' awards to be presented to Brendoncare volunteers. They acknowledge people's commitment of time and the wide range of interests and skills they bring to the benefit of residents and staff. We are always on the look-out for more volunteers and we are grateful for all offers of help."
