“In my work in the pharmaceutical industry, I always found helping the older people very rewarding. I soon became aware how very important that social contact was to them, however little.
“Later, when more free time was available, volunteering with older people was the obvious choice. This took me firstly to the British Red Cross, which became the newly formed Club Hampshire and finally Brendoncare. During this time I have enjoyed leading clubs, running a centre for clubs and helping with fundraising for clubs. I currently lead two clubs.
“The passion I had for the clubs service some twenty or so years ago is still very much with me, which is why when I was asked to consider becoming a trustee I hardly hesitated. I hope this will be another way in which I can do my bit to support the clubs, by sharing my hands on experience but more importantly being a voice for all of the clubs as we move forward.”
How our volunteers make a difference:
“They go out of their way to do what they can for us. Without them, we wouldn’t have such a lovely Monday afternoon.” Club memberTo read our other Volunteer stories, please click here
