Brendoncare Alton’s World Food Day Lunch
21st August 2019
The nurses and carers at Brendoncare Alton recently held a World Food Day lunch at the care home to raise funds for a Raizer chair for use within the home.
The Raizer chair will enable nurses and carers to lift residents safely from the floor in the event of a fall. It is much less distressing than a traditional hoist, especially for those who don’t like being hoisted.
The World Food Day lunch was attended by 80 people, including residents, relatives, children and visitors from the nearby care home, Marlfield. Also, two doctors from the local surgery, Wilson Practice, were visiting the home at the time and joined in for lunch.
The nurses and carers wore traditional dress; some were dressed in national Nepalese clothing and some wore Indian saris.
There was a wide selection of food from Nepal, India, Thailand, Romania, the Philippines and Portugal. This included chicken curry, biryani, Chinese stir fried noodles and Pilipino beef stew. An array of desserts, including rum truffles from Greece was served for afters.
Lynne Hewitt, General Manager, of Brendoncare Alton, said, “We were delighted to welcome so many people to the lunch. Our residents and staff really enjoy welcoming the local community to their home.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and so generously contributed to the Raizer chair. We raised a massive £1200 towards the chair, which costs £2700 to buy. Due to the success of this event, we are planning another one for December.”
