Brendoncare Clubs is voted into the final!

Brendoncare Clubs is delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Aviva Community Fund and stands the chance of winning up to £25,000 to support the running of the charity’s clubs across Dorset and Hampshire.

The Aviva Community Fund will finance over 800 projects across four different fund levels and six categories. Communities were able to vote for their local projects and entries with the highest number of votes were shortlisted as finalists. Brendoncare Clubs is a finalist in the ‘Supporting the older generation’ category.

Brendoncare Clubs runs around 90 social and friendship clubs for older people, who otherwise may not leave their house or have a conversation with another person from day to day. Loneliness is a real challenge for our society, with over one million older people saying that they always or often feel lonely. Loneliness has been seen to have an impact not only on someone’s mental health, but can also impact their physical wellbeing as well. Club member, Mary says “I would be completely lost without the club. Socially, as I live on my own, it gets me out at least once a week.”

The clubs are run by a dedicated team of volunteers, without whom the clubs simply could not run. Brendoncare always welcomes enquiries from people about the clubs, either as a member or a volunteer, and anyone interested can contact the clubs team on 01962 852133 or email The charity would also be delighted to hear from any individual or organisation interested in providing financial support or in sponsoring their local club.

The final result in the Aviva Community Challenge will be announced in January 2017.
