Dementia Action Week event at Brendoncare Alton, 21 May 2019
9th May 2019
Brendoncare Alton is pleased to be supporting Dementia Action Week, 20-26 May 2019. The Dementia Action event at Brendoncare Alton will run from 10am-11.30am on Tuesday 21 May 2019 and is open to any one living with dementia, their family, friends and carers. There is the opportunity to meet with others for support, reminiscence and relaxation, whilst enjoying free refreshments. The OmiVista Interactive Sensory Projector will also be available to use.
Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia. And in Hampshire alone, there are over 20,000 people diagnosed with some form of dementia. Many people living with dementia feel cut off from their community and face the condition alone. But having dementia doesn’t have to lead to an isolated life. Brendoncare is supporting people to continue living life to the full and to provide support and help where it is needed.
Dementia-friendly Alton will be in attendance on the day to offer information of local services and provide support to local people. Dementia-friendly Alton started in 2014 to help people living with dementia, and their carers. They have created and co-ordinate many dementia-friendly social activities in Alton for the local community. They will also be delivering a dementia awareness session between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on 21 May 2019 at Brendoncare Alton.
Karen Murrell, Chair, Dementia-friendly Alton, said, “We are delighted to be supporting Brendoncare Alton during Dementia Action Week. This event is the perfect time for the local community to visit Brendoncare Alton and meet with the skilled dementia-friendly staff. A warm welcome is guaranteed.”
Brendoncare Alton is a care home offering specialist nursing and dementia care in a safe and secure environment. A sensory garden, regular activities and person centred care is provided with a home-from-home feel.
