Groove the night away in Gosport

Local older people’s charity Brendoncare is opening a new evening dance club in Gosport. The weekly club will offer the chance to enjoy a boogie with friends to a wide range of music from Motown and Soul to sounds from the 50s and 60s.

The club will launch on Thursday 12 May and will run each week between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. The first hour will include some tutor-led routines followed by an hour of ‘freestyle’ dancing. Everyone is welcome to come along and take part, whatever your previous dancing experience.

Brendoncare runs more than 85 social and friendship clubs across Hampshire and Dorset, offering older people a place to meet new friends and enjoy a range of different activities. This new dance club is the charity’s latest club designed to offer fun and exercise in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Research has shown that regular gentle exercise in later years can be beneficial to posture, mobility, joint movement and balance. Brendoncare’s Head of Club Services, Edwin Ingleton, says “We know from experience that people live happier and more fulfilled lives if they are able to enjoy the companionship of like-minded people, stay mentally and physically active, and mix with friends, so we hope lots of people from Gosport will come along and join in.”

Brendoncare also has a number of volunteer roles on offer to help run the new Gosport Groovers club. These include helping with refreshments and acting as treasurer. If you are able to spare a few hours each week, the charity would love to hear from you.

The new club launches on 12 May and will meet every Thursday evening between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at Club Hampshire Centre, The Anchorage, Willis Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1LZ. Anyone interested in finding out more can telephone Brendoncare’s office on 01962 857099 or email
