Hop along to new club in Poole
31st August 2016
Launching on 5 September, the club will meet every Monday between 10.30am and 12pm at The Grasshopper pub, 139-141 Bournemouth Road, Poole, BH14 9HT. For only £1 per session, the club will offer a range of games, beetle drives and quizzes. More importantly, it is somewhere for older people to socialise, meet new friends and enjoy companionship.
Brendoncare runs more than 85 social and friendship clubs across Dorset and Hampshire. Edwin Ingleton is Head of Club Services at Brendoncare and explains how important the clubs are for older people. “Over 1 million older people in the UK say that they are always or often lonely, and loneliness has been seen to have a serious negative impact on people’s physical and mental health. Our clubs are a crucial way to break the cycle of loneliness that can be so debilitating to people’s wellbeing."
In Poole, Brendoncare already runs three popular clubs during the week. The charity is delighted to be working with The Grasshopper, a Hall & Woodhouse pub, to support people in the local area.
Volunteers are also needed to help run the club. No previous experience is necessary – just a sense of fun and a desire to support the members.
