Kurling crazy in Emsworth

Brendoncare’s Emsworth kurling club is going from strength to strength, thanks to a donation of £500 from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

New Age Kurling is a fun indoor game suitable for a wide range of players. Based on ice curling, this is a real favourite activity at Brendoncare’s clubs.

The donation by the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation was funded through their Small Change, Big Difference® scheme, which sees their customers donate the annual pence of interest from their savings or mortgage accounts. The average donation is less than 50p per year, but together, the small change from customers' accounts can really make a big difference to the local community. The £500 donation to the Emsworth kurling club has funded two new kurling sets for the club, which have improved the members’ experience of the game, enabling them to continue to enjoy the weekly benefits associated with the club.

Louise Martin, Club Support Officer for Brendoncare, explained “Kurling offers gentle exercise with a hint of competition, but the emphasis is mainly on having fun. Our club members are delighted with the new kurling sets and are looking forward to achieving lots of maximum scores!”

The Emsworth kurling club is part of a network of over 85 clubs run across Hampshire and Dorset by Winchester-based charity The Brendoncare Foundation. These clubs provide camaraderie and activities for older people, and help to tackle loneliness and social isolation. Alongside kurling clubs, the charity has clubs in pubs, singing groups, art and crafts clubs, multi-activity groups and also runs special events such as their ‘Never Too Late to Date’ nights.
