Brendoncare offers a number of care services across our homes. Maybe you’ve thought about giving yourself a break? It might just be what you or your loved one needs. Let’s look at how to get respite care in Hampshire.

For carers, knowing your loved one is being cared for in a safe and professional environment can give you that all-important time to recharge your batteries and look after yourself for a while. For those coming to stay in our homes, short-term respite care might be the answer if they need some extra time and support to recover from an illness or accident. In some cases, a respite stay can be a good way for an individual to try us out, should a more permanent move be an option.

When looking at how to get respite care, our friendly and helpful team can discuss all your needs or those of a family member professionally and in confidence. Call us today on 0300 303 4866 or visit our dedicated respite care page.

What does a respite stay at Brendoncare look like?

Once you’ve made your initial respite enquiry through our website or over the phone, we’ll be in touch to get to carry out a personalised care assessment. In this way, we can quickly and effectively understand how to best deliver an unbroken level of care.

If you’re worried about the cost of respite care, then you can feel safe in the knowledge that we won’t carry out a financial assessment for respite stays. At Brendoncare, respite care in Hampshire can start from £70 per week in addition to our weekly care fee.

First off, we’d like to find out some important information about our prospective new resident. By learning about their likes, dislikes and daily routine, we can begin working on a personal care plan and make our home feel like their home.

A helpful way to do this is by bringing smaller items along to make them comfortable and safe. Typically, these include photos and books or a music player, but we’re open to suggestions depending on what you feel will work best.

Will my loved one feel at home during a respite stay?

It matters to us that we get everything correct, right down to the smallest detail, including that very first welcome and that comforting home-from-home feeling, so that you know we’re here if you ever need us again.

Respite stays at Brendoncare don’t always mean being apart from your relative for the duration of their stay. In fact, we offer you, as a carer, the chance to join in with our regular program of activities and dine with the other residents if you like. Some carers choose not to opt-in, but your chosen home would encourage you to call for updates where possible. Our care team loves to build connections between themselves and the family, which can be a big benefit to the individual.

At the end of a respite stay, our care staff will carefully pack away an individual’s items and ensure they are all present, correct, and ready to be taken home. On departure, should you wish to discuss the stay in more detail, a staff member will be made available to answer your questions, with a follow-up call a few days later, allowing you to provide further feedback.

What happens if a respite resident wants to stay permanently?

We understand that circumstances can change. Recovery from an illness or a hospital stay can take longer than expected, or perhaps, following a respite stay, that sense of community and togetherness found in our homes is suitable for the next step in life. Equally, our round-the-clock care and support can be a much-needed benefit, especially for those in their later years.

In any event, should a permanent move to a Brendoncare home for your loved one be an agreeable next step, the home manager would be on hand to discuss your options, which would include adding more personal items to the room.

Remember, when looking at how to get respite care, stays at Brendoncare are available (subject to availability and for a minimum period). To find out more, call 0300 303 4866 or email enquiries@brendoncare.org.uk
