Between June 14-20th, we encourage all our residents to take part in this special annual event, with better physical and mental health on the menu. Find out more.

Now in its ninth year, Nutrition and Hydration Week at Brendoncare celebrates the improvements made in nutrition provision. It also highlights the importance of paying attention to the things we eat and drink, by fostering learning about what keeps our brains and bodies happy.

Having a healthy, balanced diet can have many benefits. Firstly, it helps maintain good joint and bone health, as well as a healthy digestive system. Secondly, it improves cognitive function and, in general, it can positively impact the physical and mental health of residents in our homes

Just because there’s lots of science behind it doesn’t mean healthy eating shouldn’t be fun!

What’s on at Brendoncare for Nutrition and Hydration Week?

We’re planning to highlight the importance of nutrition and hydration. Our team of creative chefs provide nutritious and varied meals. From excellent ‘traditional’ dishes to plated masterpieces for special themed days, Nutrition and Hydration week gives them plenty of inspiration. Our activities teams have been working to ensure there’s plenty of fun and games too.

Calendar of events

Monday: We start the week by celebrating the importance of breakfast and various menu options offering a well-balanced start to the day.

Tuesday: Our homes will look at snacks. The right snack can provide a nutritious boost throughout the day, essential to help maintain a healthy weight and good energy levels.

Wednesday: It’s the McVities Global Tea Party – not that we need any excuse for afternoon tea!

‘Thirsty Thursday’: All about the importance of keeping hydrated, which is especially important as the temperatures rise.

‘Fruity Friday’: We celebrate the fruits that provide us with natural sugar and vitamins aplenty, such as whole fruits, fruity desserts and maybe a fruity cocktail to wash it all down with!

‘Smoothie Saturday’: Smoothies can be a great tool to help our care homes cater for different dietary requirements, like being unable to eat solid foods. Smoothies ensure residents can still get key nutrients and a healthy, fresh meal with ease.

‘Sundae Sunday’: Ice cream sundaes will be on hand to help round out the week! Our homes will be going all out with some traditional favourites like banana splits.

Everyone at Brendoncare is looking forward to a week of fun eating, drinking and learning. Keep an eye on our social media to see what we’re getting up to, or check back here for photos after the event.
