Froxfield, between Hungerford and Marlborough, is a nursing home which caters for 44 residents and includes a specialist 11 bed dementia care household. Froxfield has been specifically designed to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. Located in the village of Froxfield, it has all the convenience of a purpose-built home while the attractive gardens, surrounding Wiltshire countryside and neighbouring 17th century almshouses lend it charm.
Brendoncare Froxfield is supported by their League of Friends. To read their story, please click here.
Opened in 1986, the home provides residential and nursing care for 44 residents and includes a specialist 11-bedroom dementia houshold. Froxfield provides a home where older people can be helped to live as normally as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. The staff offer highly skilled nursing care and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents can feel they are still in charge of their own lives.
Froxfield has been designed to provide a home-like atmosphere where individual needs can be met. With three separate households, there is a feeling of living in a small family unit while residents have access to all the home's facilities. Each of the bedrooms has a view of the gardens or surrounding fields and lanes. The entrance hall, dining room and welcoming sitting rooms are attractively furnished and provide comfortable areas where people can spend time together.
Froxfield has close links with the local community and there is an active friends network. There are many regular visitors, and frequent events and outings are organised. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests.
The home's philosophy is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. There are plenty of opportunities to be sociable but people's privacy is always respected.
Led by an experienced and well-qualified home manager, the staff at Froxfield work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident's needs and preferences. Registered nurses are always on duty supported by well-trained care assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development. Local GPs support the home and visit regularly so that residents can be registered with the doctor of their choice. A chiropodist and physiotherapist attend the home regularly and other services such as hairdressing can always be arranged.
"Of course it was hard leaving my own home and familiar surroundings, keeping the household running, with all that entails. However, I realised it was becoming more and more of an effort. Also my sense of balance was poor, and I was at great risk of falling.
"I now know that if I cannot live my old life, then Brendoncare is the best place to be. There is a wonderful, cheerful and happy atmosphere; one is always greeted by name and with a smile. Also, there is a comforting feeling of being well cared for and the confidence that help is always nearby.
"When friends ask me what it is like at Brendoncare, I can only say that it is a model for other Care Homes."

Do you care for someone who needs support while you go on holiday or have a bit of time to focus on your needs? Perhaps you need some short-term care or some support while you recover from a hospital stay or operation? We can help.
Our approach to respite care is simple; a care and support plan devised around your needs and a warm welcome to our home, however long you are staying with us. Plus, there are options to extend your visit, if you feel you would like to stay with us longer, so you can take as long as you need to recuperate.
At all of our homes there is a full range of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy or quieter spaces for more tranquil moments. Food is an important part of every day and our chefs spend time with residents, finding out their likes and dislikes. While every Brendoncare home is different, the care provided by each is firmly based on the values of kindness, care, choice and community.
“My mum enjoyed her respite stay with you and we were delighted to find her stronger and brighter. Your philosophy of care has worked well for her.” Daughter of resident, May 2017
