Opened in 1991, Ronald Gibson House is surprisingly tranquil, being situated in the extensive grounds of Springfield Hospital, and yet remains accessible and convenient. It comprises a nursing home caring for 24 physically frail older people, a 16 bedroom household for people with dementia and a 16 bedroom intermediate care household run in partnership with Wandsworth Clinical Care Commissioning Group.
Brendoncare is a registered charity, dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people through our care homes and community clubs.
Brendoncare Ronald Gibson House is a purpose-built 56 bedroom nursing home in London, specifically designed to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. Within the dementia care London home, there are facilities for 16 rehabilitative care bedrooms for individuals who have recently been discharged from hospital and 16 bedrooms for residents needing dementia care.
Ronald Gibson House provides a home where older people can be helped to live as independently as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. When necessary the staff offer highly skilled nursing care and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents are encouraged to feel they are still in charge of their own lives.
The home is divided into three households, each room with its own en-suite facilities, which promotes the feeling of family units. The home’s philosophy is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. Many enjoy going out, joining in activities or just spending time with each other. A carer helps to organise activities and maintain links with the local community, and there is a Friends network. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests and there are opportunities to be sociable through outings. However, for those who prefer more peace and solitude, their privacy is respected.
Led by an experienced and enthusiastic home manager, the staff at Ronald Gibson House work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident’s needs and preferences. Registered nurses are always on duty supported by well-trained care assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development.
There is a dedicated activities team and a busy programme of daily activities. A local GP supports the home and visits regularly, however residents can be registered with the doctor of their choice. A chiropodist attends the home on a regular basis and other services can always be arranged. A Consultant in Gerontology also visits regularly.
This specialist household provides care for 16 people living with dementia. Our aim is to offer residents a positive and supportive environment.
In addition to providing safe personal care, practical support and nursing care, our specialist staff work with residents using physiotherapy, aromatherapy, relaxation and social therapy. Residents are encouraged to develop their social abilities, enjoy conversation and take part in activities if they are able.
The ground-floor household is comfortable and attractive, and the emphasis is on brightness and warmth. To ensure privacy and safety, digital locks and door alarm systems secure the household. Our specially designed reminiscence area incorporates stimulation of hearing, smell and sight, and an enclosed sensory garden continues the sense of contact and wellbeing.
We enjoy close working relationships with the General Practitioners and psychiatric specialists who support the local area. Qualified nurses are on hand 24 hours a day, supported by experienced carers. All staff are trained in the safe management of people and in caring for those living with dementia.

Do you care for someone who needs support while you go on holiday or have a bit of time to focus on your needs? Perhaps you need some short-term care or some support while you recover from a hospital stay or operation? We can help.
Our approach to respite care is simple; a care and support plan devised around your needs and a warm welcome to our home, however long you are staying with us. Plus, there are options to extend your visit, if you feel you would like to stay with us longer, so you can take as long as you need to recuperate.
At all of our homes there is a full range of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy or quieter spaces for more tranquil moments. Food is an important part of every day and our chefs spend time with residents, finding out their likes and dislikes. While every Brendoncare home is different, the care provided by each is firmly based on the values of kindness, care, choice and community.

Our end-of-life services are focused on providing expert support for individuals and their families as they approach their last days, in a respectful, dignified and comfortable environment.
Our qualified, experienced staff are on hand at all times to provide nursing care, which is based on the expressed wishes of the individual. We work with other healthcare professionals to create a palliative approach which supports the person and their family.
“The staff are patient, supportive and caring. Nothing is too much trouble and there is a sense of fun and laughter which makes RGH a happy place to live and visit.”
