The Old Parsonage
About The Old Parsonage
The Old Parsonage aims to enable older people to live independent, happy and fulfilling lives. It is situated in the pretty village of Otterbourne, set back from the main road which links Winchester and Southampton. The early Victorian house has been considerably extended to provide accommodation suitable for nursing, while maintaining its atmosphere and charm. The walled garden and extensive grounds add to the character of the home which also provides nursing support and facilities to the adjoining 22 unit close care complex of apartments and bungalows.
The Old Parsonage offers residential and nursing care for 28 people in a warm and friendly environment. It provides a home where older people are helped to live as normally as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. The staff offer highly skilled nursing and rehabilitation when necessary, and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents can feel they are still in charge of their own lives.
In the older part of the house each room is different, with its own particular character. In the newer nursing household, people are still encouraged to bring their own possessions and furniture, even their pets, and to arrange their room as they wish. Most residents enjoy their meals in the relaxed atmosphere of either of the dining rooms where their family and friends can join them.
The home's philosophy is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. Many of them enjoy going out, joining in activities or just spending time with each other. There are regular visitors to the home which has strong links with the local community and an active friends network. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests, and there are plenty of opportunities to be sociable. However, for those who prefer more peace and solitude, their privacy is respected. The home is equipped with Wi-Fi for residents and their visitors to enjoy.
Led by an enthusiastic and well-qualified home manager, the staff at The Old Parsonage work as a close team and are committed to the Brendoncare philosophy. They make every effort to provide care which promotes privacy and dignity, and to understand each resident's needs and preferences. Registered nurses are always on duty supported by well-trained care assistants, and all the staff receive continuous education and development. Local GPs support the home and visit regularly so that residents can be registered with the doctor of their choice. A chiropodist attends the home on a regular basis and other services can always be arranged.
Old Parsonage Court is a small retirement development of 22 leasehold bungalows and apartments set in the delightful mature grounds of The Old Parsonage.
Close Care has become a very popular accommodation choice among people in their retirement years because of its unique combination of advantages. It provides the independence and security associated with home ownership, together with access to many caring and communal facilities, giving peace of mind.

“Dear adopted family. Thank you all so much for the love and care you gave D during her two years here. Thanks also for helping me through her last month. She chose what she wanted to do as usual and that should be a comfort to all of us. To absolutely everybody at The Old Parsonage.”

Do you care for someone who needs support while you go on holiday or have a bit of time to focus on your needs? Perhaps you need some short-term care or some support while you recover from a hospital stay or operation? We can help.
Our approach to respite care is simple; a care and support plan devised around your needs and a warm welcome to our home, however long you are staying with us. Plus, there are options to extend your visit, if you feel you would like to stay with us longer, so you can take as long as you need to recuperate.
At all of our homes there is a full range of activities on offer for everyone to enjoy or quieter spaces for more tranquil moments. Food is an important part of every day and our chefs spend time with residents, finding out their likes and dislikes. While every Brendoncare home is different, the care provided by each is firmly based on the values of kindness, care, choice and community.
“My mum enjoyed her respite stay with you and we were delighted to find her stronger and brighter. Your philosophy of care has worked well for her.” Daughter of resident, May 2017

Our end-of-life services are focused on providing expert support for individuals and their families as they approach their last days, in a respectful, dignified and comfortable environment.
Our qualified, experienced staff are on hand at all times to provide nursing care, which is based on the expressed wishes of the individual. We work with other healthcare professionals to create a palliative approach which supports the person and their family.
Brendoncare The Old Parsonage is taking part in The Point of Care Foundation’s ‘Living Well to the Very End’ programme. This aims to improve the care of people at the end of life by placing greater emphasis on taking time to discover aspects of residents’ experience that staff would not otherwise consider.
The cornerstone of the method is patient shadowing, which gives staff a unique insight into the experiences of residents and families, helping organisations to identify which areas of care need improving as a matter of priority and thereby driving the urgency for change.
Brendoncare is one of 19 organisations chosen to take part in this pioneering programme.
