Keeping Safe Online with Brendoncare
More and more of us are using the internet and online services. It is therefore important that we show greater awareness about possible safety risks involved. There are precautions we can take to protect ourselves from possible scams or fraud. Find out here how Brendoncare can help you!
Digital Connections is one of many ways Brendoncare aims to help our members to feel more confident and safe while using the internet. This includes laptops, smartphones and tablets.
As part of Digital Connections initiative, we are holding regular drop-in sessions at 4:30pm on the first Tuesday of every month. The first is taking place on Tuesday 1st August. If you have an IT-related question or are having trouble with your laptop or tablet, please come along. Our Training and Support Officer, Yildizhan Negargar, will answer your questions. Book your place for this session here.
Yildizhan will also run a workshop on different ways of keeping safe online. This will cover choosing safer usernames and passwords as well as recognising signs of fraudulent emails. “We would like to support our members so that they are aware of possible risks they might face online and feel safer while using online services and activities,” Yildizhan explains.
The Online Safety Workshop on Thursday 3rd August at 10am will also contain information about what to do if you think you have been targeted by any fraudulent activity. There will also be an opportunity to look at organisations such as AgeUK and Citizens Advice. They offer practical support on a variety of safety-related issues such as how to make complaints or deal with internet-related fraud. You can book your place by clicking here.
As part of our Digital Connection programme, Yildizhan has been visiting different clubs to talk to our members about their digital needs as well as introducing them to a variety of new tools and apps. On 8th August, she will be in Blandford to visit our Blandford Get Together Club that meets at Woodhouse Gardens Pavilion at 10.30am every Tuesday. During her visit, Yildizhan will talk about lesser known features on WhatsApp such as group and voice messaging as well as answering our members’ IT related questions.
Don’t forget to check our blog for the new updates about the activities we have planned for you in September. This will include an entire week dedicated to Zoom! Don’t worry if you don’t have Zoom on your tablet or laptop. Just give us a ring and we will help you set it up!
