The challenge started on 1 July 2019 and Trish will be running a half-marathon every day for two weeks. She wants to raise awareness for people living with dementia, as every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. She would like the residents of Brendoncare Chiltern View to enjoy their lives and is raising funds to help make special memories for them. She is aiming to reach her goal of £1,300 for the Brendoncare charity.
Trish has worked at Brendoncare Chiltern View for 18 months, including the past six months as Home Manager. She is a qualified Mental Health Nurse and has previously worked as a staff nurse and deputy manager on acute wards for the NHS.
Trish said, “I definitely run for enjoyment and have been training hard since April. I have done some half-marathons before, and one marathon, but never anything on this scale. I know it’s totally crazy, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a few years now, and I hope it will really catch people’s attention! I was inspired by the ‘401 Challenge’ undertaken by Ben Smith in 2016. He ran 401 marathons over 401 consecutive days to raise awareness of the damage caused by bullying.”
Brendoncare Chiltern View is a purpose-built care home offering specialist dementia and respite care. It is divided into self-contained households consisting of 15 bedrooms, to give a home-like feel of small family units. The home is located in a quiet residential area of Aylesbury. It has secure and beautiful landscaped gardens for both residents and their families to share and relax in.
