Hampshire-based charity, Brendoncare Clubs, has launched a virtual quiz time for Brendoncare Club members and volunteers in Dorset.
The regular quiz is held on the last Wednesday of each month via Zoom, and ‘new to zoom’ members have been encouraged to join in the fun.
Roy Elliott, a Brendoncare volunteer for the past 14 years, and creator of the quiz questions, said,
“It was the first time that I had used Zoom but my grand-daughter, Amy, also a Brendoncare volunteer, was very patient and helped me join in. It was lovely to see some familiar faces, and new ones too, during the virtual quiz. It gave me a great opportunity to share my stories of volunteering with Brendoncare; I hope they found it interesting!
“I am really missing leading the Brendoncare Penny’s Club in Ferndown, I can’t wait for the club to reopen.”
Pat, member of Brendoncare Westbourne Club, later said,
“Thank you so much for the organisation you put into the recent monthly quiz; I really enjoyed it. The word ‘quiz’ often brings apprehension, so very often the questions are too hard or advanced for us mere mortals who would like to take part. This quiz was ideal – questions that took us back to our youth (one answer being ‘Tommy Steele’, ah, those were the days!). I look forward with pleasure to the next time I can take part.”
And Sue, from the Brendoncare Book and Brunch Club, added,
“Thank you for organising today’s quiz which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was good to see so many members and chat and laugh with them. It was very well managed and I look forward to the next one.”
Sandra Turner, Brendoncare Club Support, said,
“We have such a great time quizzing; it’s lovely seeing everyone enjoying themselves and being happy using Zoom, which is very new to many of them.
After the quiz there is the opportunity to chat to others, many who haven’t seen each other for over a year, it’s a touching moment of true friendships.
“I would like to extend my thanks to Zurich for providing the prizes for the quiz. These have been posted to the team winners. We are all looking forward to getting together soon for the next quiz.”
About Brendoncare Clubs
Brendoncare Clubs is a well-established and trusted community service, offering a vital lifeline in Hampshire and Dorset, through regular clubs. The Clubs have been temporarily closed since March 2020 and with many members living alone, Brendoncare has been helping to maintain the positive connections and friendships they enjoy through their regular clubs. The virtual quiz is another way of members, volunteers and new members keeping in touch, until they can meet in person.
