The Brendoncare Good Companions Pub Club in Portsmouth, run by Winchester based charity, Brendoncare Clubs, is delighted to be meeting virtually to give members and volunteers the opportunity to join together each week, whilst the physical club is temporarily closed.
During the Monday morning sessions, the members and volunteers have been enjoying a variety of activities including Ukulele playing, singing, games and quizzes. There has also been a lot chat, laughter and virtual cuppas.
Penny Dawes, Brendoncare Good Companions Pub Club member, commented,
“It has been so good to be able to keep in touch with my fellow club members over the past few months. We have shared a lot of laughs together and I feel so lucky to be part of a friendly club.
“We recently received goody bags of special treats and nibbles. It was a very welcome surprise and the unexpected visit was lovely. The treats in the goody bag were lovely too!”
Also, Shirley Balding, Club member, said,
“Thank you very much for the goodies you left for me yesterday, it was very kind of you. I am looking forward to resuming my visits to the clubs. I really enjoyed making new acquaintances in the short time before lockdown, hopefully it won’t be too long before we can get back to near ‘normal’ once more.”
Louise Martin, Brendoncare Club Support, said,
“It has been great to see members’ faces and lovely to find out more about them, as we have time to chat. We have a lot of laughs and cannot wait to get back to the Club, but, in the meantime, this is a lovely way to spend time together.
“We will be celebrating Silver Sunday on 3 October, via Zoom, with four entertainers showcasing their individual talents; one club volunteer, Pauline, will be entertaining the members with her Ukulele playing.”
Brendoncare staff are also helping members who want to join in with the virtual club, but who don’t yet have the skills, confidence with technology, or the equipment to do so. Further virtual clubs are also being run by Brendoncare Clubs, to help people connect and spend time with other club members.
