Winchester-based charity, The Brendoncare Foundation, is pleased to announce that Mark Slowther, Catering Manager, at its Chandler’s Ford care home Brendoncare Knightwood, has been nominated as a finalist for The Care Home Cook/Chef Award category within the Great British Care Awards.
Mark Slowther has been recognised for his approach to healthy and nutritious food choices within the care home. He ensures everyone enjoys their meals and is adaptable to individual needs. He will link his recipes with national events and ‘fish and chip Friday’ is a particular hit amongst the residents! It’s easy to see why he’s been nominated as a Great British Care Awards finalist.
“I started working in the care industry in 2015, realising how much of a difference my cooking made to the day to day life of residents, as well as the enjoyment they get from my food. Cooking is my passion and gives me such joy.
“I am delighted to have been nominated for this award and to be shortlisted as a finalist. I am looking forward to judging day.”
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK, celebrating excellence in the care sector. The awards pay tribute to individuals and teams who are recognised as outstanding within their field of work.
This year, judging will be via online interviews and will take place in November. Winners of the Great British Care Awards will be presented with their awards at a Gala Evening in April 2021 at The Hilton Hotel, Brighton.
Charlotte Gilbert, General Manager at Brendoncare Knightwood, said,
“Mark thoroughly deserves this award, he is always passionate about what he does, the food he serves and taking part in day to day activities in the home. No challenge is too much and he will cater to any theme or idea he can which the residents love. The residents love the delicious and nutritious food he services.”
Brendoncare Knightwood offers residential, respite and end-of-life care in its 20-bedroom care home. There are also 30 close-care apartments and seven bungalows on the same site for independent living. Care at home is available to these residents, should it be needed to help remain living independently.
