The Brendoncare Southampton Voices Club, run by Winchester based charity, Brendoncare Clubs, is delighted to be meeting virtually with members, whilst the physical club is temporarily closed.
The weekly virtual meetings are being enjoyed by existing Brendoncare members, and new members are also being invited to join in the fun. The weekly sessions are being led by Tamsin Brainwood, the ‘Voices’ instructor who is regularly introducing new material so members can progress and learn.
After one of the singing sessions, Avril, Brendoncare Southampton Voices member, commented,
“Many thanks for the choir; it’s so great to be singing again. Please thank Tamsin for giving her time too – I’ve tried a few online choirs but nothing beats Tamsin’s style of teaching and choice of music!”
Also, Wendy, another Club member, said,
“It was so nice to see some of the group after all these weeks. Zoom singing is a bit weird, but in a good way. I look forward to seeing everyone again next week.”
Sara Nicholls, Brendoncare Locality Manager, said,
“We have a lot of fun together. It’s great to use our vocal chords again. We have all missed seeing each other and it’s good to see everyone enjoying themselves. It’s not like meeting in person, but the next best thing!”
Brendoncare staff are also helping members who want to join in with the virtual club, but who don’t yet have the skills, confidence with technology, or the equipment to do so. Further virtual clubs are being developed to help people connect with the outside world during this time of enforced isolation.
Brendoncare Clubs is a well established and trusted community service, offering a vital lifeline for 1,700 older people in Hampshire and Dorset, through 94 clubs across 40 locations during the week and over the weekend. The clubs are temporarily closed at present, but when running they provide a friendly, fun, relaxed and supportive environment where older people can meet other club members, make friends and develop strong peer support networks.
The Brendoncare Voices (Southampton) Club usually meets every Saturday from 9.45am-11.00am, at Oasis Academy Lords Hill, Romsey Road, Southampton, SO16 0XN. Everyone is welcome to join the club, whether they have sung with a group before or not. There is no audition to go through.
