Brendoncare Clubs, run by Winchester based charity, The Brendoncare Foundation, have been awarded a ‘Recovery Fund’ grant of £5,000 from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF). The grant will be used to help Brendoncare Gosport Community Hub reopen face-to-face clubs.

Brendoncare Gosport’s Community Hub offers a variety of weekday and weekend clubs for older people living in the local area ranging from Pilates, Tai Chi, dance, keep fit, ping pong, gardening, film, singing to lunch clubs.

Many members view Brendoncare as a lifeline and the face-to-face clubs offer a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment for older people in the community to develop strong support networks and friendships.

The HIWCF Recovery Fund grant will support the safe reopening of the clubs in Gosport and allow members to participate in a club once again or for the very first time.

Sally Harrild, Head of Brendoncare Clubs Services, said: “It has been heart-warming to see our members coming back to clubs after some time away. Friendships are being rekindled and the measures we have put in place to keep people safe mean that people can relax and enjoy the fun.

“Thanks to this generous grant from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation we will be able to continue to reopen our face-to-face clubs in Gosport safely and give our members every opportunity to return to or join a Brendoncare Club.”

Jacqui Scott, CEO of HICWF, said: “We are delighted that the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation’s Recovery Fund has enabled Brendoncare Clubs in Gosport to reopen. The aim of the fund was to support local voluntary and community organisations working with people who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic to help them develop skills for the future.

“Because of the continuing pandemic, we know that many organisations are struggling to deliver services that are now more in need than ever. For Brendoncare Clubs, this funding enables face-to-face clubs and events to reopen, providing vital social connection, exercise and wellbeing for older people in our community.
