Brendoncare Clubs has been fortunate to receive a grant of £5,000 from The Screwfix Foundation to cover the cost of new heaters for the main hall at its Club Hampshire centre in Gosport.
The centre, on Willis Road, currently runs 18 social and exercise clubs for older people throughout the week and has been in vital need of new heaters for a number of years. This was most noticeable in winter 2017-18 when a number of clubs unfortunately stopped running because the building was cold, and therefore a health risk to the older people who meet at the centre for fun and friendship every week.
Brendoncare Clubs recently welcomed Gemma Birch from the Portsmouth Screwfix store to unveil the new heaters at an open day at the centre. She was able to hear about the work of the charity and meet some people who are benefitting from the warmer space.
Kerry Hicks, Brendoncare’s clubs locality manager for the area said, “We are so grateful for the support of The Screwfix Foundation, and for the local store’s involvement too. The heaters have made the centre more comfortable, safe, welcoming and warm for the 250+ members who use the centre every week.”
Gemma Birch from Portsmouth Screwfix says, “We’re really pleased that we have been able to award funding to Brendoncare Clubs. Staff from across Screwfix have held a variety of fundraising events to raise vital funds for the Foundation to distribute to charities across the UK, so it’s fantastic to see the money we have raised being invested back into such a worthwhile community project.”
