Celebrations at local care home

Winchester residential home Brendoncare Meadway is celebrating after being awarded ‘good’ following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

East Grinstead residential and nursing home Brendoncare Stildon is celebrating after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) continued to rate it as ‘good’ in all categories following a recent inspection.

The home in Dorset Way, East Grinstead, provides care and support for up to 32 people who have personal care and nursing needs some of whom are living with dementia or chronic conditions.

During its inspection in March, the CQC was satisfied that the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In the report published recently, it observed that “people told us that staff were caring and kind. Staff spoke to people respectfully and encouraged people to remain independent with staff assisting when people needed them to. [Their] views were respected and they were actively encouraged to be involved in decisions about their care and supported to access additional services such as mental health if they needed to.”

The CQC also recognised the home respected people’s wishes when they reached the end of their life and that the registered manager worked with other services such as GPs and hospices to ensure that people were as pain free as possible. The inspectors also recognised that the home had been accredited with the Gold Standards Framework for providing end of life care.

The CQC also recognised the positive culture in the home and a clear and supportive management structure. The CQC noted that one healthcare professional said, “I can’t fault the clinical management and they have the overall management of the service which supports that.”

Naomi Butcher, the General Manager, commented “The latest CQC report on Brendoncare Stildon recognises the commitment and dedication of all members the team. I am proud of everyone who works here and their determination to support each resident in the best way possible for their own individual needs.”

Brendoncare is pleased the inspection recognises that the residents feel safe, the service is well managed and the staff are caring and kind at Stildon. It is encouraged by the inspector’s positive comments about all the activities and entertainment within the home which are in response to residents suggestions. The inspector also recognised the home’s collaboration with other local healthcare professionals and hospices.
