Double celebrations at local care home

Care home Brendoncare Alton is celebrating after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated it as ‘good’ in all categories.

The home in Adams Way, Alton, provides nursing and dementia care for up to 80 people and recently marked its twentieth anniversary earlier this year.
During its inspection in May, the CQC was satisfied that the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In the report published recently, it observed that “people experienced positive and caring relationships with the staff who provided their care. [Their] views were respected and they were actively encouraged to be involved in decisions about their care.”
The CQC also recognised the positive culture in the home and a clear management structure. In April, Tina Manterfield became the new manager at Brendoncare Alton, transferring from another home in the Brendoncare group. The CQC noted a feeling of optimism amongst staff about Tina’s appointment, as well as a stable management team within the home.
Tina commented “The latest CQC report on Brendoncare Alton recognises the commitment and dedication of all members the team. I am proud of everyone who works here and their determination to support each resident in the best way possible for their own individual needs.”
The care home is also celebrating its accreditation as a provider of the Six Steps programme. The aim of the programme is to ensure all residents receive high quality end-of-life care provided by a care home that encompasses the philosophy of palliative care and enables people to die where they choose.
The programme covers discussions around an individual’s wishes, the assessment and planning of care and the coordination and delivery of that care in a person’s last days and after death. Brendoncare Alton was awarded its accreditation by The North Hampshire Six Steps Care Home Education and Practice Development Programme at a special event in early July.
Brendoncare Alton is part of Hampshire-based charity The Brendoncare Foundation, which runs 10 care homes across the south of England. It also provides over 90 clubs for older people in Hampshire and Dorset, the latest of which has recently opened at Brendoncare Alton. Local people are invited to come along on a Saturday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm to enjoy a range of games and activities and the chance to socialise and make new friends.
