Brendoncare’s Fundraising team were delighted to present the latest Fundraising Star of the Month award to Brendoncare Alton Mews resident, Bob Weighton. Bob has personally raised almost £900 for Brendoncare, through sales of his self-published poetry books and handcrafted woodwork items.
Bob Weighton, who at 111 years old is Britain’s oldest living man, lives independently in one of 46 apartments at Brendoncare Alton, having lived in the town since 1969. He has a shed in the garden at Alton, where he makes wooden windmills, children’s toys and furniture from wood that he has been given.
In recent months, Bob has accompanied the Community Fundraising team on visits to local schools, to talk in assemblies about his life adventures and the importance of always looking on the bright side of life. The children have been fascinated by his stories, and some have been inspired to hold their own fundraising events for Brendoncare. When the Fundraising team presented him with his award, he was lost for words, and simply said, “Wow! I never expected that!”
Bob’s latest poetry book ‘Diverse Verses’ is available to order from the Fundraising team (email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01962 852133), for a suggested donation of £10.
