Local landlady to drive 1,200 miles for charity

The landlady of the Junction Tavern in Gosport is taking on an epic challenge to raise money for Brendoncare Clubs.

Deana’s grandfather was a member at the Brendoncare Monday club in Gosport before he passed away and it was a highlight of his week. Deana said “My grandad Joe had vascular dementia and the Brendoncare Monday Club was the highlight of his week. He would be up at the crack of dawn chomping at the bit to get to his favourite club.”
Brendoncare has over 90 clubs across Hampshire and Dorset, with 16 of them regularly running in Gosport. Designed to provide fun and friendship for older people, especially those who do not have family or friends living nearby, the clubs include tai chi and table tennis for the more active, a monthly film night for the movie buffs, a singing group for everyone and some general games and activity clubs.
Phoebe Day, Fundraising Manager for Brendoncare, explained “For a number of our members, their local Brendoncare club is their one social opportunity of the week, the chance to get out of their house and mix with others. Plus the range of clubs on offer means that there is a club for everyone.” She continued “The clubs’ network costs £676,000 to run every year and it is the support and generosity of people such as Deana which help to ensure our clubs are there for those who would otherwise be lonely.”
The Two Ball Banger Rally starts on 18 August and finishes in Nice four days later, having passed through the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco.
