Simplyhealth has been supporting customers with their everyday health needs for over 140 years and its Community Fund supports projects which tackle local health issues and bring communities together. This is exactly what Brendoncare’s clubs achieve. They provide opportunities for fun and friendship and help to alleviate loneliness and social isolation, which can have such a devastating impact on our mental and physical wellbeing.
The generous donation of £1,000 from Simplyhealth funded Christmas parties across Hampshire, bringing festive cheer to the clubs’ members.
Head of Club Services for Brendoncare, Samantha Agnew, said “Simplyhealth’s kind donation helped us to bring an extra special sparkle to our members’ Christmas. This is a time which can be long and lonely for older people, who might not have family living locally and so Simplyhealth’s support made a real difference to our members.”
Jo Longman, Chair of Simplyhealth’s Winchester Community Fund and Director of HR and Engagement said: “No one should be alone at Christmas and we were delighted to support Brendoncare and bring some festive cheer to Winchester’s older population. We think it’s fantastic that Brendoncare enables so many of the city’s residents to access vital social interaction, retain some independence and improve quality of life. Isolation can be a large factor in mental health and can affect a person’s overall health and wellbeing, so we recognise how important social clubs are.”
Brendoncare’s clubs run all year round, during the week and at weekends, and offer something for everyone. From tea and games groups, clubs which meet in pubs, a cooking club, as well as indoor kurling and exercise clubs and a couple of singing groups, there is a real range to meet people’s different interests.
