Newly refurbished Brendoncare Alton celebrates after being rated ‘Good’ by the CQC

During its inspection, the CQC rated the home ‘good’ in all five criteria of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In the report, published recently, it noted that people received individualised care, planned around their needs and preferences. Residents were provided with opportunities for activity and social contact and dining tables were arranged for maximum social interaction.

The CQC recognised that there was a positive, open culture focussing on achieving good outcomes for residents. Residents were treated with kindness, respect and compassion during their care. A couple of the comments made by residents to the CQC were, “They are so kind to me” and “They’re always helpful.”

The CQC noted that staff were well trained and had on-going support and supervision in their roles. They had access to relevant training, safeguarding policies and guidance. Staff had a good understanding of the residents they cared for. One resident said, “They know my routine and how I like things done.”

Lynne Hewitt, General Manager, commented, “The latest CQC report on Brendoncare Alton recognises the commitment and dedication of all members of the team. I am proud of everyone who works here and their determination to support each resident in the best way possible to meet individual needs. We are pleased the inspection recognises that our residents are treated with privacy and dignity during the provision of their care.”

The home in Alton provides nursing care for 80 people, as well as specialist care for people living with dementia, including respite care. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment and boasts comfortable and modern accommodation across five households, each with its own facilities. A extra care complex adjoins the home, providing the independence and security of home ownership, combined with access to the home’s many caring and communal facilities, giving peace of mind.
