Rob has volunteered at Brendoncare Alton for over eight years, and has taken on a variety of really fascinating roles.
“I visit residents around the home, as well as helping with activities and day trips. Since I started at the home, I have met and worked with a lot of staff and met old and new residents too.
For a few years, my role was to look after two guinea pigs, Kevin and Viv. The residents loved them so much, until the guinea pigs became ill and passed away. But now I like to help the carers and the catering staff with lunches and supper, taking food trolleys to each household.
The residents enjoy seeing me around and are very grateful for what I do. Being a volunteer means a lot to me and other people who don’t have a job at the moment, because we are there to help and support each other.
Sometimes I work on my own while the Activities team are on leave. I have now been at Alton for more than 8 years. The staff and the residents say thank you to me for helping them.”
