Volunteering with Brendoncare

With today being the start of Volunteers Week (1st – 7th June), Brendoncare is celebrating and giving thanks to the wonderful people who give their time freely to help and support the work being carried out for older people in our care homes and community clubs.

Two such people are retired married couple Mike and Shirley who are regular volunteers at Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill’s community hub and feature in this video.

Both of them are familiar faces around the care home, giving assistance wherever and whenever they can, making friends with the residents and staff.

“We wanted to do something to make a difference as we had both retired”, explains Shirley. “I knew a lady who works at Otterbourne who said we would be ideal to work with the people here so can I put you down to join us?

“There is such a Feelgood Factor especially knowing I am here to make a difference.”

Mike adds: “I would say, come and give it a try, as once you have tried it, you will come back again.

“It is just such a great place to be……It is amazing.”

James Roberts, Brendoncare’s Head of Volunteering, also talks you through the process of becoming one of our dedicated team of volunteers.

We are grateful to every one of our volunteers for the contribution they make in countless aspects of Brendoncare’s work for older people, including as drivers and as telephone support for our club members who need a friendly chat and helpful advice.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, please go to the Register Interest tab on the Volunteer page where you can leave your details so we can get back to you.
